I have a Street Fighter IV for the PC. Would a normal PC controller work as well?

Street Fighter is tedious to control with a keyBoard and in order to unlock characters I need a controller to do ultra finishes. The only thing is that I want to save money and I was just wondering if a normal PC Controller would Be alright as an alternative for an XBOX controller.
