Akuma (Gouki)

Background

Akuma’s (Gouki in Japan) fighting style is a nameless martial art incorporating aspects of karate, judo, and kempo, including the technique of Shun Goku Satsu (Instant Hell Murder or The Raging Demon).

Akuma is Gouken’s bother. They were both students of Goutetsu. A dispute arose between the brothers on the true nature of their fighting style. Gouken left Goutetsu’s training to begin his own dojo, unable to accept the extremely violent nature of Goutetsu’s martial art. Akuma continued Goutetsu’s teachings.

Akuma devotes himself to the principle of Satsui no Hadō (Murderous Intent). He gives up all compassion and he leaves Goutetsu’s guidance to train alone. Akuma returns and kills his former master to demonstrate his strength and mastery of the Shun Goku Satsu fighting style. Some time later, Akuma fights Gouken and apparently kills him (at least as far as Akuma believes). Ken and Ryu vow to avenge their master’s (apparent) death and begin to search for Akuma.
