Gouken

Background

Gouken is Ryu, Ken and Dan’s martial arts master. He is also Akuma’s brother.

Gouken and Akuma were once the students of Goutetsu. Eventually Gouken rejected the Ansatsuken martial arts philosophy which Akuma embraced. Gouken formed his own dojo and developed his own fighting style, before training Ryu, Ken and Dan.

Akuma challenges Gouken and defeats him, apparently killing him (as far as Akuma, Ryu and Ken believe at least). Gouken actually survives however and begins to follow his former students in an effort to protect Ryu from Akuma, as Akuma wants to unleash the power at Satsui no Hadou from within Ryu.

Technique

Gouken originally trained in Ansatsuken alongside Akuma, however he rejected the killing aspects of that fighting style instead developing the Hadouken and Shoryuken techniques for self-defense.
